Boomers are finding religion as they age. Eighty-five percent of boomers say they are affiliated with some religion, according to research from The Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life. Of boomers who claim a religion, 43 percent say they are a “strong” member, up from 31 percent when they were young. Sixty percent say religion is an important part of their lives, up from 39 percent in the late 1970s.

Some other findings from the Pew report:

  • 61 percent say they pray daily.
  • 32 percent say they attend a religious service at least once a week.
  • 65 percent are certain God exists.
  • 33 percent say the Bible is the literal word of God.
  • 39 percent prefer bigger government and more services.
  • 35 percent believe government should do more to protect morality.
