A few of the indicators of investor optimism from a recent Scottrade American Investor Survey are:

The majority of American investors (56 percent) think the economy will improve within the next 12 months.

Investors who think the stock market is resilient and will produce gains in the long term climbed from 73 percent in 2008 to 79 percent in 2009.

51 percent of investors believe they’ll recoup their investment losses in the next three years.

The number of investors who think the market will be down over the prior year fell from 61 percent in 2008 to 49 percent in 2009.

Stats around investors’ increased activity toward managing their own finances more actively include:

29 percent of investors are checking their account more frequently

A quarter of investors are becoming more familiar with their financial situation
